OpenID: New Login Option for LuxSci WebMail
LuxSci now allows users to login to its WebMail, Affiliate, and SecureSend portals using an OpenID. This feature can make logins faster, simpler, and even more secure by:
- Allowing you to use a single sign on to login to LuxSci’s portals, as well as the tens of thousands of other web sites that also support OpenID.
- Not requiring you to remember your LuxSci username and password in order to access WebMail and our other portals
- Enabling you to use optionally strong encryption, biometrics, smart cards, and other mechanisms to verify your identity, instead of passwords, when logging in.
Where can you get an OpenID?
Users of AOL, Google, Facebook, or Yahoo! already have an OpenID by virtue of your account with them. You can use your account at any of these sites to login to LuxSci, as they are pre-programmed to work seamlessly. You can also use an OpenID from any other OpenID provider. Here is list of a few well-known providers.
For extremely secure OpenIDs that can use smart cards or biometric devices as a form of authentication, we recommend looking at TrustBearer.com. In January, LuxSci itself will become an OpenID provider. All LuxSci users will be able to user their LuxSci account as an OpenID for logging into LuxSci or any other web site that supports OpenID.
How Can You Use OpenID with Your LuxSci Account?
Existing LuxSci users can login to LuxSci WebMail and choose “Account > My Profile > OpenIDs” from the menu. Once in your OpenID management interface, you can click on “Add an OpenID” and select your OpenID provider or enter your OpenID. After you have added your OpenID, you can use that ID to login to LuxSci.
LuxSci users can have any number of OpenIDs associated with their accounts; however, each OpenID can only be associated with a single user’s account (because the OpenID alone must be used to determine what account is being accessed).
New LuxSci accounts can now use their OpenID in the signup process to pre-fill their contact information and to have their OpenID automatically associated with their new account. LuxSci customers can also use private labeled OpenID with Private Labeled Webmail to access their branded email securely.
What about the Affiliate and SecureSend Portals?
LuxSci’s OpenID interface in the Affiliate program portal and in the SecureSend portal (where anyone with an email address can send encrypted email messages to LuxSci SecureLine-enabled users for free) is similar to the support in WebMail where:
- OpenIDs can be used during registration to speed up the registration process and to auto-associate the OpenID with the new account.
- OpenIDs can be used to login to these accounts.
- OpenIDs can be added and deleted from these accounts at any time, once you are logged in.
