The Beta period is over! LuxSci now offers its Mobile Sync service to all new and existing customers.
Mobile Sync provides real-time automatic synchronization of your LuxSci Calendars, Address Books, and Tasks with your mobile device(s). Premium Mobile Sync also includes outbound email and Push Email for real-time email updates without the significant battery drain that IMAP and POP incur. Mobile Sync is:
- Quick and easy to setup (easier than setting up a regular email account on your phone)
- Fast and reliable
- Very secure (available for use in HIPAA accounts).
New customers can select “Mobile Sync” when customizing their order/package. Existing customers can add Mobile Sync using the “Upgrade Wizard” in their account administration area.

LuxSci has added two-factor authentication as an option for its web interface.
With two-factor authentication enabled, a user will first enter his/her username and password. If that is successful, then a special Token will be sent to the user’s configured mobile device (as a text message / SMS) or an alternate email address configured for the user. The user then enters this Token into the LuxSci web interface login screen to complete the login process.
Two-factor authentication can be configured on a per-user basis for any LuxSci user in the “Account > My Profile > Two-Factor Authentication” page.

LuxSci has offered an “Xpress” WebMail portal for many years. The portal is fast, simple, and works with most devices because it does not use any JavaScript or cookies, and uses few images. The Xpress portal is good for security, privacy, and access from legacy devices, as well as over very slow connections.
However, the mobile device landscape is quickly changing. Starting with the iPhone and its full-featured Safari web browser, to the Android, the Palm Pre, and the availability of browsers like OperaMini on many phones, it is now the case that many “cutting edge” phones actually have fast web browsers that fully support JavaScript, AJAX, CSS, and broadband — all the technologies formerly the purview of the desktop. Their major drawback, however, is still the very small screen. Many of these browsers work perfectly well with most web sites, including LuxSci’s full-featured WebMail portal; however, it can be problematic and painful to use and navigate sites designed for large displays on these device’s small screens.
Enter LuxSci’s new “Mobile Mode”. Mobile Mode is a new feature of LuxSci’s regular WebMail interface that is available when it detects that you are accessing it using a mobile device, such as an iPhone.

Continuing with the recent changes to the LuxSci Xpress mobile portal, the User Profile, Preferences, and Email Tools areas have been streamlined to fit on most mobile devices’ and phones’ web browsers. This allows users to easily configure their individual WebMail or WebAide preferences, adjust spam filter settings, setup autoresponders or taglines, and update their contact info or login password — all from the palm of their hand.
The only pages that remain to be updated in the Xpress portal are the Links, Notes, and eJournals premium WebAides. These are currently being revised for both the Xpress and the Full portals; the streamlined and updated versions of these WebAides will be released within the next month or so.

LuxSci has added plug-ins to its WebMail application in version 10.10 of LuxSci’s software which includes two JAVA applets. So, were we hesitant to add JAVA applets, FLASH, ActiveX, and other plugins in the first place? And why the sudden change of heart? What does this mean for our customers who are concerned about security or who do not want or cannot use JAVA applets?

The iPhone from Apple is an amazing Smart Phone, if not a mini personal computer in itself. We at LuxSci have been using iPhones since they were first available in 2007 and we have optimized our Xpress WebMail portal with a mobile-centric interface inspired by the iPhone and come out with MobileSync push email and contact/calendar sync services that work beautifully with iPhone and other mobile devices. Many of our clients use an iPhone or other Internet-enabled mobile device with our email services. The time seems right to share some of our knowledge and experience with iPhones.

LuxSci has completed updates to its "Xpress" WebMail portal that enable it to look and perform well on mobile devices, like the iPhone, Blackberry and other PDAs and smart phones. With this release, all of the the most used features of the Xpress interface are mobile accessible; the remaining pages (like personal preferences) will be revised in the coming months.
Login to our Xpress mobile portal directly by going to: http://luxsci.mobi
Mobile users can generally also use POP or IMAP for checking their LuxSci email and SMTP for sending email. The Xpress portal provides a additional mobile-compatible web-based interface.
