 The HIPAA Ombibus rules are on everyone’s mind as they scramble to bolster their HIPAA compliance before it’s too late. Among many other things, like stricter enforcement and breach notification rules, the Omnibus rules finally extend the requirements for HIPAA compliance to all of a Covered Entity’s Business Associates, and to all of the vendors that those companies use, etc., all the way across to anyone who could possibly come into contact with ePHI … even if they otherwise might not even know it!

 LuxSci has long offered Basic and Premium dedicated servers for customers with requirements that are not ideal for our shared server offerings. I.e. large numbers of users, large amounts of disk space, enhanced security and privacy, relaxed usage limits, and custom configurations.
The major differences between the Basic and Premium dedicated server offerings relate to:
- The quality of the data center and network infrastructure
- The security inherent in the infrastructure
- The SLA and privacy policies
- Dedicated HIPAA-compliant hosting is only available on Premium
So, while from a cost perspective, Basic dedicated servers offer a lot of capacity for a low cost entry point, customers who require a higher level of reliability and security really only have one option: Premium dedicated servers.
Enter “Private Cloud Servers”
LuxSci’s Private Cloud Servers are dedicated virtual servers running on VMWare ESX hosts in LuxSci’s dedicated Rackspace infrastructure. These provide all of the advantages of a Premium Dedicated Server at a fraction of the price — if you only need a fraction of a server based on your requirements.

 LuxSci has a history of helping businesses with mission-critical needs by providing highly customized solutions on dedicated server(s) at Rackspace. These are fully-outsourced, high performing, reliable, and private instances of LuxSci’s email and web services, managed and supported by LuxSci. Recently, the premium Rackspace server has grown out of the price range of our customers whose situation and/or budget require a dedicated environment.
In response, LuxSci has expanded its dedicated server offerings to include ones that are significantly less expensive. We now have 3 types of dedicated server offerings, starting from $179/mo and with no long-term contract:
- Dedicated Cloud Servers, hosted in Rackspace’s server cloud,
- Basic Dedicated Servers, hosted at ServerBeach,
- Premium Dedicated Servers, hosted with Rackspace and Peer1
Prices include:
- Hardware: The server hardware available through the Server Provider
- Software: The license fees for running LuxSci software and frequent software updates.
- Maintenance: Server monitoring and management by LuxSci
- Support: Technical support by LuxSci

 LuxSci is a small and efficiently run company that is focused on and specializes in premium email services. While we do not have “our own” data centers like some of the “big boys”; we utilize the services of one of the most respected and reliable managed server providers around — Rackspace. We have been with Rackspace for 8 years. Prior to that we tried out a few of the cheaper providers and found that the support and/or the quality of the hardware and network was not up to our standards. Rackspace is like an extension of our IT department, helping us to provide the most reliable and redundant services available.
One of our long time clients has remarked that we have a “formula for success” that we shouldn’t change. We attribute this to the combination of our software, our people, and our infrastructure. In this article, we’ll discuss how LuxSci utilizes Rackspace and how our software and support solutions are complemented and enhanced by Rackspace’s reliability, security, and support.
