LuxSci has added two new features to help administrators manage the forwarding of email in their accounts so that they can meet HIPAA and other regulatory requirements and at the same time easily control the actions of their users:
- Globally restricting email forwarding to only recipients whose email servers support SMTP TLS for message transport encryption, and
- Globally restricting users from managing their own email forwarding settings.

LuxSci’s email services are versatile, as well as secure. We offer solutions to many problems and meet a diverse assortment of specialized needs. One important niche well-served by LuxSci’s flexible and highly configurable system is that of parental control — specifying exactly what email should be sent and received by children and keeping tabs on that email, while not restricting the parent’s (administrator’s) email usage.

LuxSci’s new “Sender Restriction” feature allows account and domain administrators to exert firm control over which email is delivered to their users. When enabled, this feature permits the specification of:
- An “allowed sender list” of domains and/or email addresses. Email from anyone not on the list will be refused (bounced back to the sender with an error).
- An “denied sender list” of domains and/or email addresses. Email from anyone on this list will be refused (bounced back to the sender with an error).

LuxSci supports OpenID as a mechanism for logging into its web-based user interface. OpenID allows both a single signon for multiple web sites (so you do not have to remember as many usernames and passwords); it can also enhance the security of your account.
As with most web sites that support OpenID access, LuxSci also permits users to login with their usual username and password — even if OpenID use is enabled. This is usually a good thing, as it allows users to login if, for some reason, their OpenID is not working.

LuxSci users with Blogs, Links, Notes and Documents WebAides can publish the information in these tools as a public RSS 2.0 feed. Similarly, LuxSci users can publish their Calendars as a public iCal file. These public files can be password protected.
However, it is often the case that when automating data transfer (i.e. having your Blog show up as a page in your internal Wiki) the programs that read the RSS and/or iCal feed might not support password protection. So, how can you ensure privacy and security without using password protection?

LuxSci has supported restricting to whom users can send email messages for quite some time. However, this implementation behaves like a “locked down allow list”. I.e. you can set it up so that users can send only to a certain set of addresses and/or domains. We have had several requests for a feature to allow users to send to anyone except certain addresses or domains (i.e. a recipient deny list).
LuxSci has updated the “Recipient Restriction” settings that can be configured on each domain so that administrators can choose to have any of the following:
- No restrictions
- Allow List Style – “Send only to these folks” restrictions
- Deny List Style – “Send to anyone but these folks” restrictions.

LuxSci provides very generous limits on the maximum message size that can be sent — 200 MB for SMTP and 70 MB for WebMail. However, some clients have a business need to restrict the maximum size of a message that they can send and receive to something much smaller.
It is straight forward to bounce inbound messages that are “too big” with a custom filter and send a custom bounce message. However, the filter has to be configured on a per-user basis, and doesn’t restrict outbound messages sizes.
