LDAP stands for "Lightweight Directory Access Protocol". It is a means
by which you can access remote address books from within your email
client. Now, your can outsource your email and still have shared address
book access from your email clients.
Available to all LuxSci users, the LDAP Address Book Service is
compatible with many e-mail clients - including Eudora, Microsoft Outlook
and Outlook Express, Thunderbird and Pine - and allows read-only,
searchable access to all subscribed address books.
Features of LuxSci LDAP access include:
- Access multiple address books: You can subscribe to any number
of address books; all subscribed address books will be accessible
through your LDAP connection. I.e., this could include your
personal address book, your shared corporate address book, and
others.
- Compatible: LDAP is available in many different email clients.
We provide explicit instructions for setting it up in clients
such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, and Pine.
General instructions are available for setting it up in other
clients.
- Search: LDAP supports searching your address books by
many different fields.
- Access Auditing: View reports listing all of your successful
and unsuccessful LDAP accesses.
- Secure: We provide secure LDAP (LDAPS) access over SSL for clients,
like Mozilla Thunderbird, that support this.
- Read Only: LDAP access is read only.
