LuxSci is the brainchild of Erik Kangas, whose fascination with designing high-quality, detail-oriented web-based infrastructures led to the start up of his company in 1999. Erik chose the unusual name LuxSci, derived from the Latin "light of knowledge," to encapsulate his view of the importance of developing services that bring great clarity to resolving electronic communications problems, whether they relate to a Healthcare practice that must abide by governmental requirements, to a business that wishes to design an email marketing campaign, or to a large corporate entity seeking to bolster its security profile. With 30 years engaged in to both academic research and software architecture, Erik Kangas fused the two strains of his analytical background in 1999 while founding LuxSci, which provides elegant, efficient, and robust solutions for scalable secure email and Web hosting services. Being chief architect and developer, Erik has "grown" LuxSci to become a well-respected name in the fields of online security and HIPAA compliance. In fact, Erik displayed his penchant for computers from boyhood in Cleveland Ohio, where he began to teach himself the programming languages Basic and Pascal in 5th grade, moving on to Assembly language as a teenager, and then winning first place at the Ohio high school state science fair for authoring a novel programming language.
With undergraduate degrees in physics and mathematics from Case Western Reserve University, Erik was one of the youngest students to be admitted, as a full collaborator in a large-scale high-energy physics experiment. Five years later he earned his doctoral degree in computational biophysics from MIT. Then, at Akamai Technologies, Erik made significant contributions to architecting, developing, and maintaining various Web-based applications and services. As a visiting professor of physics at MIT, he collaborated on molecular dynamics simulations.
An international lecturer on messaging security, Erik also advises and consults on email best practices, secure web site architectures, and HIPAA compliance. As acting CTO of LuxSci, Erik is personally incorporating cutting edge technologies, such as Machine Learning and AI Ops, into the LuxSci ecosystem.
When he does take time away from LuxSci, Erik studies advanced computer science and data analytics techniques, enjoys science fiction and philosophy, and participates in endurance sports. Erik has completed one full Ironman triathlon, four Half Ironman triathlons, numerous marathons, and many long-distance open water swimming competitions.
Jeanne Fama, Ph.D. brings 28 years of experience to LuxSci, contributing knowledge derived from her diverse background in psychology and management. Juxtaposed with the technical expertise of Erik Kangas, her insight into the health field from large metro hospitals to rural medical centers provides unique perspective which serves LuxSci's clients through product development, sales, and marketing strategies. As Executive Vice President, Jeanne excels at seeing the big picture, evolving corporate strategy, and optimizing business operations, especially though data analytic techniques.
Jeanne received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Harvard University in 2005 and her MBA (with an emphasis/certificate in Data Analytics) from MIT in 2019. She has also served on the Faculty of Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital since 2008.
Antoinette brings a deep background in all revenue-related functions, including marketing, sales, customer support, business development, and general revenue management. During her tenure at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she first led and grew a global technology entrepreneurship community. Then she went on to join the world of media where she expanded the global footprint of MIT Technology Review (a media company owned by MIT) through long-term strategic partnerships to bring their journalism to audiences across the world. Prior to coming to the USA in 2001, Antoinette was the Relationship Marketing Manager for JD Group Pty Ltd in South Africa, then the largest group of national retail and finance chains in the Southern hemisphere. She was also the Marketing Manager for the first IT chain in South Africa.
Ms. Matthews has a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Financial Management from the University of Pretoria, and received her MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Vice President of Sales
Keith is an established sales star and entrepreneur. He has started 5 separate businesses and worked at Yahoo! for 14 years; while there, Keith hired and coached hundreds of sellers who are now leaders at Verizon, Google, Amazon, Facebook and various VC-Backed start-ups. Keith was also recognized as one of the top 1% of Yahoo! sales talents multiple years in a row.
One of Keith's "super powers" is the ability to build and grow extremely successful sales teams—ones that outperform expectations. Here at LuxSci, he is leveraging that power, together with his ability to distill down the complex into the clear and understandable, to help drive our growth.
Director of Customer Support
With extensive experience in IT technical support, quality assurance testing, and management, Mike joined LuxSci in 2009. He has brilliantly and persistently worked his way up from Support Technician to Support Manager to Director. Mike keeps the well-oiled LuxSci support engine turning, makes sure that our customers are happy, and helps the team constantly learn and improve.
Director of Marketing
Jason has a bachelor's degree in political science from Boston University and 19 years of experience in digital marketing. Much of this time was in senior positions at Yahoo!, where Jason managed teams of people that have run advertising campaigns across the internet for companies large and small.
An extremely smart and thoughtful leader, Jason has a strategic mind set and is taking advantage of his vast experience to extend awareness of LuxSci's great value to a much wider audience.
Director of Finance
With a bachelor's degree in Accounting coupled with extensive experience in the banking industry as well as in auditing and tax law, Amy joined LuxSci in 2008 to manage both Accounting and Human Resources. LuxSci has come a long way since 2008 and Amy has been a key player: impeccably trustworthy, appropriately security conscious, in touch with the bigger financial picture, and kind and empathetic to our customers' concerns. Customers who work with Amy on billing matters can relax knowing that everything will be taken care of properly and fairly.

Zach has been an indispensable member of LuxSci since he joined our team in 2009. Having started in customer support and worked his way up into sales and product development, Zach has extensive experience with every aspect of LuxSci and every corner of our varied service offerings.
