LuxSci has updated its Token Support pricing model. This support model allows eligible customers for pay for support “as they go”, rather than having unlimited support included as part of their per-user fee.
The new support token model lowers the per-token price to $25 each and reduces the cost of support issues for both Dedicated Server and Software Platform customers.
- Dedicated Server customers can choose to pay for support “as they go” so that their monthly server fees do not include any per-user component for flat-rate unlimited support.
- Software Platform customers supplement their own internal support staff with our assistance, paying “as they go”.
“Pay as you go” Token-based support is not available to customers on shared servers.
For more details, see Token-Based Technical Support.

LuxSci offers many options for email security. Whether it is PGP, S/MIME, LuxSci’s SecureLine end-to-end email encryption, or forced secure logins over SSL, LuxSci can guide you in making the best choices for secure and safe email.
End-to-end email encryption is one way to ensure that your email can only be read by the intended recipients. SSL and TLS connections are secure, but only to a point. While you can ensure that your users connect securely to LuxSci’s servers, who is to say that your recipient’s connection is secure? With LuxSci SecureLine, even if the recipient’s connection isn’t secure, you can be assured that your message is sent securely and can only be read by whom you intended.

LuxSci has a history of helping businesses with mission-critical needs by providing highly customized solutions on dedicated server(s) at Rackspace. These are fully-outsourced, high performing, reliable, and private instances of LuxSci’s email and web services, managed and supported by LuxSci. Recently, the premium Rackspace server has grown out of the price range of our customers whose situation and/or budget require a dedicated environment.
In response, LuxSci has expanded its dedicated server offerings to include ones that are significantly less expensive. We now have 3 types of dedicated server offerings, starting from $179/mo and with no long-term contract:
- Dedicated Cloud Servers, hosted in Rackspace’s server cloud,
- Basic Dedicated Servers, hosted at ServerBeach,
- Premium Dedicated Servers, hosted with Rackspace and Peer1
Prices include:
- Hardware: The server hardware available through the Server Provider
- Software: The license fees for running LuxSci software and frequent software updates.
- Maintenance: Server monitoring and management by LuxSci
- Support: Technical support by LuxSci

LuxSci has recently updated its Dedicated Hosting Service Level Agreement, Acceptable Use Policies, and Confidentiality/Non-disclosure agreements. The revised versions are posted in the LuxSci Legal area.
The changes correspond to the introduction of new Basic Dedicated and Cloud Dedicated server offerings. In order to consistently and transparently reflect the underlying AUPs and Terms of Service imposed by our Server Providers partners, (RackSpace, Peer1, and ServerBeach), policy revision were necessary.

Repeatedly, it is a situation that we see over and over. Monday morning hits and we get a frantic call from a manager or VP in one of our customer’s organization. They need access to their account, but the person who was set up as their account manager has left the company or been terminated. Oops.
At LuxSci, like many other conscientious places, we take very seriously the determination of “who is authorized to do what” in an account. If the account owner is gone and provisions are not made ahead of time for taking over his/her duties, it can be a time consuming and tedious process to validate and establish someone else in the organization as the rightful owner of the account (and not just someone trying to “trick the system” and get access to things that s/he should not have access to).
If you are planning on letting an employee go, you should make sure well ahead of time to check the following things:

Many of our clients prefer and sometimes require the use of “Distribution Lists” to send email messages to multiple recipients.
We are often asked if LuxSci supports “Distribution Lists”. The answer is “Yes”, and we have three different approaches to send email messages to pre-defined lists of recipients. We feel that is helpful to present each solution using the same requirements and to compare the relative merits of each.

If you are tired of spending hours clearing your Microsoft Outlook email in-box of useless junk mail, then you need a better spam filter. But while many programs come with a spam filter automatically installed, it may not be installed to work for you – it could either let in too many malicious emails or filter out important emails. Learning how to create an effective spam filter can help you optimize your time and stop you from pulling out your hair.

 Email Outsourcing
As small businesses look for ways to trim costs during lean economic times, one area they might overlook is their email system. A study by research group Gartner recently showed, 80 percent of companies could save money by engaging in email outsourcing – having outside companies manage their email systems for them.

LuxSci has enhanced its recently released Widgets with customizable hotkeys. LuxSci Widgets are little tools that allow specialized access to email, calendars, tasks, support tickets, RSS feeds, blogs, notebooks, and more. LuxSci Widgets can also host any third-party widget content you want, such as Facebook, weather, games, etc.
Now, with hotkeys, users can configure Widgets to load and display in a small pop-up frame at the push of a simple keyboard shortcut — from any page in their LuxSci account! This allows quick access to favorite or frequently used features with zero navigation.

While most people might not know what PGP encryption is, almost everyone with access to an email account uses it regularly. It’s one of the most popular ways to digitally sign, encrypt or decrypt emailed documents, adding an additional level of security of email communications. But what might sound like a fairly dry and mundane tool has a history fraught with intrigue, peril, spy agencies and very real threats to the creator, a computer scientist named Phil Zimmerman.
