Luxsci API

LuxSci Enhances API Authentication for Easier, More Flexible Integrations with EHRs, CDPs and RCM Platforms

Today, we’re pleased to announce that LuxSci just made it even easier to leverage its powerful high volume email API with the healthcare platforms you rely on most. Whether you’re connecting with an EHR system, Customer Data Platform (CDP), Revenue Capital Management (RCM) platform—or even your contact center or unified communications suite—the new LuxSci API authentication options unlock the flexibility you need to scale and move fast.

In healthcare, connected patient journeys anchored in secure, personalized communications are driving increased engagement and better outcomes for patients and companies—all at a lower cost. From sending secure high-volume transactional emails to targeted marketing and educational communications, your systems and platforms need to talk to each other without friction to achieve the best results. LuxSci’s new API updates make that possible, securely.

What’s New in This Update

  • Support for OAuth 2.0, API Key, and Basic authentication methods.
  • Published API YAML specs and SwaggerHub integration for instant testing.
  • Enhanced multi-factor authentication (MFA) protection with one-time-use codes.

Overview of the LuxSci API

The LuxSci API is built with healthcare IT, security and developer teams in mind. It’s RESTful, secure, and designed for high volume email workflows.

Using industry standards like HTTPS, JSON, and TLS 1.2+, LuxSci’s API delivers fast and reliable integration and communication. Whether you’re sending appointment reminders, test results, preventative care communications, explanation of benefits (EoBs), or new product offers, your messages go out quickly and securely, with best-in-class email deliverability rates of 98% or more.

Designed for Compliance and Performance

LuxSci is HIPAA-compliant and HITRUST Certified, ensuring your healthcare communications stay within the bounds of regulatory compliance, keeping patient and company data secure—even as your email sending volume scales into the millions.

Authentication Gets a Major Upgrade

With the latest API release, LuxSci now supports three industry-standard authentication methods—alongside its proprietary LuxSci Secure option.

Let’s break them down:

  1. OAuth 2.0 – The modern standard. Secure, flexible, and ideal for enterprise-scale integrations.
  2. API Key – Simple and efficient. Ideal for server-to-server use when convenience matters most.
  3. Basic Authentication – Straightforward and widely supported. Great for internal systems and quick testing.

Still Available and Highly Recommended: LuxSci Secure Authentication

For those who want the tightest possible control over API sessions—including HMAC signatures and session revocation—LuxSci Secure authentication remains the best option for customers.

Now, let’s take a closer look at how each of the new authentication methods work:

OAuth 2.0: A Standards-Based Approach

OAuth 2.0 gives you a robust framework to handle both account-level and user-level integrations.

Account-Level Authentication (Client Credentials Flow)

Perfect for system-level access—including EHR, CDP or RCM platform integrations where user context isn’t needed.

User-Level Authentication (Resource Owner Password Credentials Flow)

This method allows API access on behalf of individual users—great for patient portals or provider tools.

Security, Flexibility, and Simplicity Combined

Tokens expire after a default of 15 minutes, ensuring sessions aren’t left open indefinitely. Bonus: No message body signing is required, making integration quick and painless.

API Key: Simple and Straightforward

API Key authentication is as easy as including your credentials in a custom header. No session to manage, no extra handshake steps.

How It Works:

You send the HTTP header

X-API-Key: client_id:client_secret

With each request. That’s it.

Ideal Use Cases

  • Server-to-server automation
  • Internal dashboards
  • Data exports from analytics platforms

Basic Authentication: Familiar and Easy

Basic Auth is a time-tested option. Just Base64 encode your API credentials, include them in an HTTP header, and go.

While not as bulletproof as OAuth or LuxSci Secure, API Key and Basic Auth work fine for less sensitive data or development environments.

Easy Access to YAML Specs and SwaggerHub for API Testing

LuxSci has also published detailed YAML API specifications, making it easier for developers and IT teams to access testing interfaces.

You can find more information on our LuxSci API page.

Improved MFA and Easier Access to Testing Tools

As part of today’s announcement, LuxSci also rolled out new, smarter Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for enhanced web interface login protection.

LuxSci now ensures that each MFA code can be used only once. So, even if a hacker captures your password and MFA code, they are useless for conducting new login sessions. This update helps protect against automated phishing, spoofing, and fake login pages.

Introducing Unified Login: Seamless Access Across Your LuxSci Accounts

At LuxSci, we’re committed to making secure communication easier and more efficient for healthcare organizations. Today, we’re excited to introduce Unified Login—a new feature that simplifies identity management and streamlines access to multiple LuxSci accounts, helping users and administrators save time and improve workflows, without sacrificing security.

If your organization manages multiple LuxSci accounts—or if you’re new to LuxSci and require multiple secure email accounts and domains—switching between them just became faster, easier, and more efficient. With Unified Login, users can seamlessly move between linked accounts without the hassle of repeated logins, ensuring uninterrupted productivity while maintaining strict security and compliance standards.

Why Unified Login?

Healthcare professionals, IT administrators & security, marketing teams, and compliance officers often need to manage multiple secure email accounts across different departments, domains, or business units. Traditionally, switching between accounts required a separate login, disrupting workflows and wasting time by requiring multiple logins and passwords.

With LuxSci’s new Unified Login feature, administrators can link user identities across accounts and domains, enabling one-click access without repeated authentication. This means:

  • More Efficiency – No more logging in and out multiple times a day. Switch identities instantly and move between accounts uninterrupted.
  • Better User Experience – Access the accounts and resources you need in seconds, with a seamless transition between roles and domains.
  • Strong Security & Compliance – Every identity switch is logged for full transparency. Actions performed under a switched identity also track who switched into the identity, ensuring security and regulatory compliance are maintained.

Real-World Use Cases

Here’s how Unified Login can benefit different healthcare functions and use cases:

Compliance Officers & IT Security

A compliance officer or IT security director conducting an audit across multiple business units can quickly switch between accounts to check email logs, security settings, and compliance reports—saving time and reducing administrative burdens.

Healthcare Marketing Teams

A healthcare marketing professional or a digital communications manager sending out segmented campaigns across different services, products, or brands can quickly and easily navigate between campaigns and results for each account or domain.

IT Administrators Managing Multiple Accounts

A hospital or health plan IT administrator overseeing multiple accounts for different departments (e.g., patient services, billing, and compliance) can now switch between accounts instantly—without re-entering credentials each time. This speeds up troubleshooting, reporting, and user management, making workflows significantly more efficient.

Physicians & Providers with Multiple Roles

A doctor working across multiple clinics or locations with separate email accounts can easily transition between them without needing to log out and back in. Whether reviewing patient communications or sending secure messages, Unified Login ensures a seamless and secure experience.

How It Works

Unified Login provides administrator-managed identity linking, ensuring organizations retain full control over who can switch between accounts. The feature supports:

  • Unique Access Separation – Users maintain distinct identities, having quick access when needed.
  • Shared & Delegated Access – Teams working across multiple accounts can transition seamlessly.
  • Administrative Access – IT and compliance teams can manage multiple accounts efficiently while maintaining strict security protocols.

The main features of Unified Login include:

  • Administrators can link individual users to other users in the same or a different account.
  • Users can switch identities with one click without the need to re-authenticate.
  • Each identity switch starts a new session, giving the user the same access and permissions as the target identity.
  • Access and audit logs reference the original user, preserving accountability.

Once configured, users will see a “Switch Identity To” section in their account menu. Clicking on a linked identity seamlessly switches to a new session with the appropriate permissions, ensuring security while keeping workflows uninterrupted. If two or more identities are available, a “View All Identities” option appears.

Designed for Secure Healthcare, Built for Convenience

As a leader in HIPAA-compliant secure communications, LuxSci understands the challenges of balancing efficiency with security. Unified Login is ideal for healthcare organizations that need:

  • Secure, streamlined workflows for managing multiple email accounts for multiple business units, departments, or locations.
  • Faster access to multiple accounts for authorized personnel without compromising compliance.
  • Reduced password fatigue for users managing multiple roles or accounts.

LuxSci HITRUST Certified

LuxSci Achieves HITRUST Certification for Third Consecutive Term

We’re thrilled to announce our latest data security achievements here at LuxSci! Once again, LuxSci has achieved HITRUST CSF® certification, following a multi-step process that includes a deep assessment, validation, and quality assurance analysis for a company and its products. Our 2024-26 certification marks the third consecutive time that LuxSci has received the 2-year HITRUST certification, meeting the rigorous standards set by the HITRUST CSF framework.

In related news, LuxSci, which is GDPR compliant, has also renewed its US-EU Data Privacy Framework (DPF) certification for the next 12 months. According to the certification, U.S. companies that participate in the DPF provide adequate levels of security for personal data transfers received from the EU within the scope of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This renewal enables us to support customers in Europe, while ensuring we meet the highest data protection standards for cross-border data transfers. For customers that do business in the EU and UK, LuxSci ensures data privacy is upheld in compliance with regulations.

Our latest security certifications are a testament to our continuous and unrelenting commitment to delivering the highest levels of data protection for healthcare communications. This includes securing email, marketing, text, forms and hosting—while also improving patient engagement and outcomes with the use of protected health information (PHI) in communications.

Why HITRUST Certification Matters in Healthcare

In the healthcare industry, protecting sensitive patient data is not just a legal requirement—it’s an ethical responsibility and an imperative for any company or organization in existence today. While HIPAA compliance establishes a strong baseline for safeguarding patient information, HITRUST certification takes data protection a step further. The HITRUST Common Security Framework (CSF) integrates multiple regulatory standards, including HIPAA, to provide a comprehensive approach to information security, privacy, and risk management.

For healthcare organizations—and larger companies and enterprises, in particular—partnering with a HITRUST-certified provider like LuxSci provides peace of mind. You can trust that our security controls not only meet HIPAA standards but also go beyond them to address the latest industry challenges and emerging threats—we do this constantly, year after year.

How HITRUST Enhances Data Security Beyond HIPAA

HIPAA establishes the essential requirements for securing protected health information (PHI), putting a solid, but basic foundation in place. HITRUST certification is recognized for going beyond the basics. Here’s how:

  • Comprehensive Approach to Risk Management: HITRUST CSF combines various security, privacy, and regulatory standards such as NIST, ISO, and PCI-DSS, providing a more robust framework for managing risks in healthcare.
  • Continuous Monitoring and Improvement: HITRUST requires organizations to continuously monitor and improve their security measures, ensuring that their defenses evolve alongside new threats and new technologies.
  • Tailored Security Controls: HITRUST’s framework scales based on the size, complexity, and nature of the organization, offering flexibility while maintaining a high standard of security.
  • Third-Party Validation: Achieving HITRUST certification involves rigorous third-party audits, which demonstrate that an organization’s security practices are not only in place but have been thoroughly validated.

The Benefits of HITRUST Certification for Healthcare

For healthcare providers, payers, and suppliers, the advantages of partnering with a HITRUST-certified organization like LuxSci are clear:

  • Streamlined Compliance: HITRUST certification simplifies compliance with multiple regulatory frameworks, reducing the burden of managing multiple audits and certifications.
  • Enhanced Patient and Customer Trust: By choosing a HITRUST-certified partner, you show patients, partners, and regulators that your organization prioritizes the highest levels of security.
  • Future-Proofing: HITRUST ensures that you’re not just up to date with today’s standards but prepared for future regulatory requirements and security challenges as they arise.

At LuxSci, we remain committed to delivering secure, scalable, and flexible HIPAA-compliant healthcare communications solutions that our clients can depend on for the highest levels of data protection.

LuxSci Email Tracking Features

New Email Tracking Features Deliver More Accurate Engagement Insights

Today, we’re excited to announce two new reporting features designed to help healthcare organizations improve reporting accuracy and the overall effectiveness of their email campaigns. The new features offer deeper insights into Apple Mail and Google email performance by distinguishing between opens and clicks performed by human actions and automated events — and by giving users control over how these events are reflected in LuxSci email campaign reporting.

Let’s dive into what these features are and how they can help you get more precise data from your healthcare email marketing and communications efforts.

Feature 1: Enhanced Open and Click Tracking – Human vs. Automated

One of the biggest challenges in email tracking today is the rise of automated systems that pre-load images and scan links in emails. Automated systems can trigger open or click events without the recipient actually interacting with the email, leading to inflated and misleading open/click rates.

With LuxSci’s new enhanced open and click tracking, you can now tell whether Apple Mail and Google emails (Gmail and Google Workspace) were opened or a link was clicked by a human or by an automated system. This crucial distinction allows you to have a much clearer picture of actual user engagement.

Here’s how it works:

  • When emails are sent with open tracking enabled, a small tracking image (also known as a pixel) is embedded in the email. When that image is loaded, the system tracks the email as “opened.”
  • Similarly, links in the email are encoded to track clicks. If a recipient clicks a link, it triggers a “clicked” event, but these events can also be triggered by automated systems.
  • LuxSci’s enhanced open and click tracking feature analyzes these events and reports whether the actions were performed by a human or an automated system, helping you sift through false positives.

Feature 2: Suppressing Automated Events in Your Reporting

In addition to tracking the source of open and click events, LuxSci’s second new feature gives you the option to exclude automated events from Apple Mail and Google email from your email engagement statistics altogether. This setting, available in account-wide outbound email settings, is a powerful tool for ensuring the accuracy of your reports and understanding true user engagement.

Here’s how it works:

  • Automated opens and clicks can be removed from email reporting for better accuracy. For example, if a security bot clicks a link, that event will be logged, but it won’t mark the email as “clicked” in your statistics.
  • Your open, click, and click-through rates can be set to only reflect real human actions, making these metrics much more reliable for evaluating campaign performance and actual patient engagement.

Why These Features Matter for Healthcare Email Marketing

For healthcare organizations, reliable metrics are essential. Emails often carry critical information related to patient care, transactions, or marketing, and understanding who is engaging with your content is critical to ongoing improvement and long-term success. At the same time, automated actions can inflate your open and click rates, leading to inaccurate conclusions about your email performance.

LuxSci’s new features give you the power to:

  • Track email engagement with precision: Know the difference between human engagement and automated actions, so your metrics reflect reality.
  • Customize your reporting: Decide whether you want to include or suppress automated events in your reports.
  • Improve deliverability strategies: By analyzing which emails are genuinely opened or clicked by real people, you can fine-tune your email campaigns to maximize their effectiveness.

Ready to Enhance Your Email Tracking?

Take control of your email deliverability insights with LuxSci’s newest email tracking tools. Whether you want to gain deeper insights into recipient behavior or eliminate noise from automated systems, these features are designed to help you improve your email reporting, performance and engagement.

LuxSci Secure Healthcare Communications

LuxSci Unveils New Website and Branding – A New Era of Personalized Healthcare Engagement

Today, we’re excited to unveil our new website and branding, reflecting the company’s next stage of growth and evolution – as well as our aspirations to bring more clarity to data security and the HIPAA compliance landscape for healthcare communications.

In an era where healthcare is rapidly evolving, personalized engagement and communications are more critical than ever, driving greater participation in today’s healthcare journeys and delivering better outcomes. At the same time, HIPAA compliance and the security of protected health information (PHI) are a constant concern for all healthcare organizations. New regulations and cybersecurity threats pop up almost daily and without warning.

At LuxSci, we believe that you can both protect PHI data and use it to carry out more personalized, more effective, and more inclusive healthcare experiences. Our new website and branding are designed to represent this belief, and to help you make the smartest decisions when it comes to secure healthcare communications and HIPAA compliance.

Personalization: The Key to Better Healthcare Engagement

With new healthcare initiatives aimed at increasing patient participation rapidly emerging, including connected care and value-based care, one-size-fits-all communication strategies are no longer effective. Today, patients and customers increasingly expect personalized, relevant, and timely communications over the channel of their choice – and organizations that can deliver on these expectations will deliver better healthcare outcomes for everyone involved. The problem is that patient portal adoption has been hovering at around 50-60% for years, leaving a large portion of the population out of the health conversation.

Now’s the time for healthcare organizations to take action by adopting a more multi-channel approach to communications – while remaining HIPAA-compliant. LuxSci’s new website highlights our capabilities in helping you protect and leverage PHI data for personalized healthcare engagement across email, text, and marketing channels. By combining secure communication channels with advanced personalization powered by PHI data, we empower healthcare organizations to connect with patients in more meaningful ways across the end-to-end healthcare journey.

LuxSci Secure Email Reporting Statistics

Get more granular, ID trends in real time with Split Reporting

As part of this release, we are pleased to introduce our Split Reporting feature, which empowers users to drill down on email deliverability statistics across a range of parameters, including:

  • subject
  • from address
  • recipient domains
  • marketing ID or campaign
  • custom field

For example, users can analyze email deliverability statistics by subject to determine which ones are performing best, by use case to track results by campaign, or to track performance by recipient email domains. With split reporting, users also can analyze email volumes across queued, delivered, opened, failed and clicked parameters, and determine click-through rates (CTR) to measure effectiveness and ROI of campaigns.
