HIPAA-compliant Dropbox: Secure File Sharing at LuxSci

Wednesday, July 13th, 2016

Want to set up a public dropbox for sharing sensitive files but still remain HIPAA-compliant?  This is now a snap for anyone with a HIPAA-compliant LuxSci account.

LuxSci has long provided online cloud-based secure file storage and sharing via its Documents WebAide service, which is included with all accounts as part of our suite of collaboration tools (calendars, tasks, address books, files, notes, links, password libraries, and user groups).  Now, in addition to being able to share files internally with other users, groups, and accounts, LuxSci customers can securely share files with anyone on the Internet.

How to Share

There are many ways to access the dialog box used for sharing WebAides with others.  Here is one:

WebAide and WebMail Features for More and Larger Files

Friday, October 9th, 2015

LuxSci has introduced a series of new features and improvements over the past few months to enable better security, larger files, and more ease of use.  Here is a brief rundown of these:

No More JAVA Applets!

LuxSci previously provided JAVA Applets to enable the optional bulk uploading and downloading of files.  However, these days, one can bulk upload files using “drag and drop” and web browsers are moving away from support of JAVA applets for security reasons.  To simplify our interface and remove any need for JAVA, we have removed these applets altogether.

  • To upload files in bulk, simply use “drag and drop”
  • Downloading files in bulk is now done by providing you with a ZIP Archive of the selected files

This change impacts email message composition, downloading attachments from email messages, and uploading and downloading files from WebAides and the File Manager.

New LuxSci WebMail Interface: What has changed?

Thursday, February 5th, 2015

The LuxSci WebMail and WebAide interfaces are being updated on Friday, February 6th.  Here is a clear picture of what has changed for those encountering these changes for the first time:

  1. The advanced search button  is now a menu located to the right of the search box.       The “View options” list that used to be to the right of the search box are now accessed by opening the new search menu (click on ). The search area is now directly to the left of the toolbar.
  2. The “Submenus” (e.g. “View”, “Message”, and “Tools”) have been collapsed into 2 menus: “commands”  and “settings and tools”  now located on the top right of the page.
  3. The “toolbar” is in about the same place, but now with bigger icons and smaller text. Additionally actions that you cannot perform, based on what items are selected, are disabled.
  4. The controls for switching between pages of messages and for toggling between viewing the preview pane along with your message list vs. displaying either the message list or the preview pane have been moved into the top of the message list area.

The user interfaces for WebAides (e.g. Calendars, Address books, Tasks, etc.) have all changed analogously.

Collaborative Access to Encrypted Archived Form Data with SecureForm

Friday, February 7th, 2014

LuxSci SecureForm service uniquely enables web site and PDF forms to post their data and files to a secure URL and have that data automatically securely emailed to one or more recipients, uploaded to an S/FTP site, archived in an online collaborative WebAides file storage space, and/or saved to a MySQL database.  With a few clicks and minimal changes to existing forms, customers can have sophisticated and secure forwarding, processing, and storage of their form posts, including re-filling the posted data into template PDF, html, xml, and other files.

Collaborative Access to Encrypted Archived Form Data

When using SecureForm to store copies of uploaded form data to an online Documents WebAide, you can choose to have that data automatically encrypted so that only the “recipient” of the encryption (i.e. one of your users) can ever open it.  Not even LuxSci’s technical support staff would be able to access this data unless you specifically allowed it.
