Internet service providers Global Crossing and Hurricane Electric shut down the San Jose, CA, web hosting provider "McColo" on Tuesday after it was determined that the ISP was aiding criminals in the sending of Spam, perpetrating online fraud, and providing access to child pornography. McColo was used by some of the most active and prolific spammers in the world; the suspension of its services has resulted in a 75% decrease in spam, worldwide!

LuxSci has made its maintenance window and service status information much more transparent and accessible to its users. Previously, this information was simply posted to a blog on the members’ "welcome page". Now the existence of important information is made visible to users on the welcome page, account administration page, and in the support tickets tool.

There are many reasons why users or administrators might want to have their email data exported and saved to CD or DVD. These include:
- Creation of permanent archives
- Preserving old email that is no longer actively needed, but which should be kept
- Obtaining copies of email data for legal proceedings
- To reduce server disk space usage
- To migrate data to another provider or an in-house solution

All users of Spam Quarantine Reports for our Email Guard and Email Defense Premium Email Filtering service will have the ability, beginning December 8th, to modify the appearance of the columns in these reports. This will allows you to customize the information presented and thus make it more useful and/or succinct.
More detailed information about the service enhancements will be available near the time of release, December 8, 2008

SSL versus TLS
TLS (Transport Layer Security) and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) are protocols that provide data encryption and authentication between applications in scenarios where that data is being sent across an insecure network, such as checking your email (How does the Secure Socket Layer work?). The terms SSL and TLS are often used interchangeably or in conjunction with each other (TLS/SSL), but one is in fact the predecessor of the other — SSL 3.0 served as the basis for TLS 1.0 which, as a result, is sometimes referred to as SSL 3.1. With this said though, is there actually a difference between the two?

LuxSci now fully supports Google’s Chrome web browser in its WebMail Interface. Chrome is built on the same foundation as Apple’s Safari web browser, but is optimized for use with high performance, modern, web-based applications such as LuxSci’s WebMail and collaboration interfaces. We find that Chrome is an exceptionally fast and responsive browser to use.
