Support API: Configuration Tools for the LuxSci Software Platform
The LuxSci Software Platform allows organizations to run LuxSci’s software on their own servers, in their own data center(s), supported by their own staff. This is very flexible and cost effective and used by ISPs and other organizations with moderate to large numbers of users. LuxSci has just released a "Support API" for such organizations so that many of the standard support tasks can be automated or controlled by external systems.
What does the Support API allow you to do?
The Support API allows you to:
- Perform any function available in the normal Account API on any account in the system, without Account API access being actually granted to that account itself. (i.e. you can do it even if the account holder can’t.) This provides for actions like the automated creation, updating, and deletion of users, resetting passwords, creating and deleting domains and email aliases, and downloading reports on users, aliases, and domains.
- Lookup users and passwords based on their email addresses
- Create new accounts
- Get detailed reports on accounts
- Update account licenses, limits, and settings
- Enable / disable accounts
How can the Support API assist users of the LuxSci Software Platform?
This new API makes it much easier to integrate the LuxSci Software Platform with existing infrastructure, such as billing systems, sign-up systems, monitoring and reporting programs, etc. The API also allows for quick and easy password and contact information retrieval and resetting for any user so that these tasks can be used for single sign-on, OpenID interfaces, and remote updates. The API systems also simplify the process of migrating many accounts into a LuxSci system in an automated fashion. Combined with LuxSci’s bulk email migration tools, it is very easy to create large numbers of new accounts with thousands of users and have their email and personal data all transfer automatically into the LuxSci software system.
