Widgets: Tasks and Lists

Published: September 1st, 2009

LuxSci has given its Task List widgets a complete overhaul, improving their usefulness as well as their usability.   The Task List Widgets provide a simplified and very slick window on your underlying Tasks WebAides, available to anyone with a WebAides license. Like all widgets, they can be included in any workspace, like the Welcome page or the Account Administration page.  They can also be accessed via user-specified hot keys from any page in LuxSci’s site.

Some of the enhancements to the Task List Widget, all of which operate using AJAX, include:

  • Two usage modes: “Task List” and “To Do List”.  In “To Do List” mode, all tasks are always displayed and completed ones are shown as crossed out.  Task due dates are not displayed and items are sorted by priority and title.  In “Task List” mode, completed tasks are hidden, the date due is displayed, and items are sorted by date due, priority, and title.  “To Do List” mode is great for simple check lists; “Task List” mode is great for tracking recurring items or items that have specific due dates.
  • Creating new task or entries “on the fly”
  • Marking tasks complete
  • Viewing and updating the priority of tasks using  slick icon menu
  • Deleting tasks
  • Specifying how many tasks are displayed at once in the Widget and the ability to page between groups of tasks if you have many of them

More minor enhancements are also included.  This update also serves as a preview of the upcoming improvements we’ll be making to the rest of our WebAide widgets, so stay tuned.
